Self-similar evolution of Alfven wave turbulence

We study self-similar solutions of the kinetic equation for MHD wave turbulence derived in (Galtier S et al 2000 J. Plasma Phys. 63 447–88). Motivated by finding the asymptotic behaviour of solutions for initial value problems, we formulate a nonlinear eigenvalue problem comprising in finding a number x∗ such that the self-similar shape function f (η) would have a powerlaw asymptotic η−x ∗ at...

Self-Similar Statistics in MHD Turbulence

The fully developed decaying turbulence of 3-d resistive, viscous, incompressible magnetohydrodynamics is investigated using Elsasser variables and Hopf equation for probability distributions. The method is an extension of a previous work for Navier Stokes equations done by Foias et al. based on a suggestion by Hopf. It uses essentially self-similar properties of the statistics, which "almost" ...

Self-similar scaling in decaying numerical turbulence.

Decaying turbulence is studied numerically using as initial condition a random flow whose shell-integrated energy spectrum increases with wave number k like k(q). Alternatively, initial conditions are generated from a driven turbulence simulation by simply stopping the driving. It is known that the dependence of the decaying energy spectrum on wave number, time, and viscosity can be collapsed o...

Nonlinear evolution of inertial Alfvén wave turbulence

Some recent experimental observations have been shown that inclusion of electron collisions damping in inertial Alfvén wave (IAW) dynamics may be important for laboratory as well as space plasmas. This paper presents the numerical simulation of model equation governing the nonlinear dynamics of IAW in low-beta plasmas. When the nonlinearity arises due to the ponderomotive force and Joule heatin...

Self-similar evolution of self-written waveguides.

Numerical simulations show that channel waveguides can be self-written in photosensitive materials. As the waveguide evolves, its shape remains approximately constant, even though its depth and width change. We find an exact solution that describes this evolution, which we show to be self-similar. A wide variety of single-peaked beams form waveguides that converge to this solution.
